And she cut the great black dog’s throat, from sternum to jaw
And at the first prick of the hairpin, the dog went stiff and silent
And fell, still as death
And from the hole in the dog’s throat emerged the man
His hair and skin and eyes still as black as the dog’s
And his throat cut as the dog’s was
