FMA: Brotherhood is probably my all-time favorite anime, and the series in general has definitely been an influence on Dresden Codak. That said, the treatment of prostheses in FMA is interesting to me in that it’s kind of the inverse of what I try to do with DC. That is to say, Ed is trying to “get his body back,” as FMA is generally working from the trope that prostheses represent loss or incompleteness.
There’s nothing wrong with this, of course. The idea of cyborgs being less human isn’t new, from Darth Vader to Robocop, but it’s not something I’m interested in doing.
