Microchips Biotech is Automating Drug Dosing

http://ift.tt/1E8EcEY

Microchips Biotech has been developing a product for drug deliver on a chip. A microchip is implanted in the body with as many as 400 doses of a self-contained hermetically-sealed drug. The drug is then released manually via wireless remote by patient, clinician or can be automated based on time or sensing a change in metabolic behavior.

Each implant contains 100’s of micro-reservoirs, small hermetically sealed compartments, each of which store up to 1 mg of drug.  The microchip-based implant is activated by a wireless signal which triggers the micro-reservoirs to release the drug.

Bill Gates’s contraceptive project is looking to use this technology to implant women in the buttocks, upper arm or abdomen.
