Mesmerizing “Time Slice” Photos Show Single Locations at Different Times of Day #CelebratePhotography

Via My Modern Met

For years, artist and photographer Fong Qi Wei has been skillfully slicing photographs into awe-inspiring scenes showcasing the passage of time. Known as “time slice” photographs, each work of art combines several photos taken at different times of day to produce a single, strikingly cohesive composition.

To create each piece, Wei snaps several photographs of the same location over a period of several hours. He then digitally divides the images and extracts a single strip from each. Finally, he pieces together these strips, creating a harmonized scene that beautifully depicts a range of time.

While time slice photography is a prevalent practice among contemporary artists, Wei’s work is renowned for its creative compositions. Rather than simply combining the “slices” into vertical stripes, the artist experiments with angles, shapes, and placement. Some are arranged into ray-like formations, for example, while others are split into series of circles.

Original Ideal: Artist uses brain scanner to determine people’s ideal self image #ArtTuesday #EEG

This fascinating project seeks to find a persons “Ideal” self. Photographer Scott Chasserot hooked participants up to an EEG and presented them with altered images of themselves. By analyzing the brainwaves Chasserot determined which images the particpants “liked” the best. It is really interesting to see how much or how little each person’s ideal version is. Everyone wants to change at least one thing about themselves. No matter how many cheesy songs are written about embracing your imperfections, we all still catch ourselves occasionally thinking about our ideal appearances where all our “flaws” are corrected.

Photographer Scott Chasserot was able to bring a few people’s ideal selves to life through his project “Original Ideal,” which was described as a combination of “portrait photography and neuroscience” on his website. Chasserot took simple and unadorned head shots of his volunteers, then by using an editing software, he made dozens of altered versions based on the “scientifically established canons of beauty.”

By presenting the edited photos to the volunteers while they wore EEG headsets, Chasserot was able to analyze their brain waves and identify which version they preferred the most based on positive neural reactions. The preferred photo was then labeled as their “ideal” appearance.

Becoming a Dark Souls Knight with EVA Foam

You don’t have to possess a ton of experience to become a knight — not when you’re a cosplayer. Abysswalker Cosplay made his Artorias the Abysswalker costume inspired by the Dark Souls characters in just a month. He worked on the ensemble in free time outside of his full time job. He didn’t get super precise for this costume and explains he winged it with templates and measurements. You can see some of the progress below.

And in case you’re wondering how he turned the foam into convincing armor, he says:

EVA foam for the entire body, helm is made of fiberglass and bondo, the sword is a piece of poplar from home depot i used a base coat of plasti-dip to seal most of it then a chrome duplicolor spray paint then all the detail is a mix of black/gunmetal mettalic acrylic paint and thank you!
