Edgeland House Bercy Chen Studio

Edgeland House is a 1400-sf residence located in Austin, Texas near Town Lake. The project touches on architecture as site-specific installation art and as an extension of the landscape. Built upon the  excavated void left from Chevron’s pipeline which used to run through the middle of the property, the intent is to employ architecture to heal the industrial scar. The house is sited 7-foot below ground, gaining benefits from the earth’s mass to maintain thermal comfort throughout the year. While the essence of the project is contemporary re-interpretation of the Pit House; the oldest housing typology in North America. The roof form touch on the playful art of origami.
