This came at the tail end of a long twitter convo about age and gender representation in video games and I just couldn’t help myself.
I really appreciate the age range in Overwatch, and how it’s skewed towards 30s and up even for the ladies, but bummed that there are no grizzled gals who have been allowed to show age (a common issue in most forms of entertainment). Even Mercy, who is supposed to be 37, looks like a college co-ed.
On the the other side of the same coin, for all the diverse appearances male characters are granted in media, they’re rarely allowed to be the slinky seductive archetype without either being the punchline of a joke or participating in hamfisted gender performance, so here we are.
